21 inch LG Ultra Slim audio okay, no picture repaired.

I got a phone call from a client who wanted her Television checked by a technician, Complain was no picture but audio was present.

I passed by and since she was out, I was assisted by her daughter who was on vacation during the long holidays here in Kenya.

As usual I applied power to confirm the symptom and the result were the same. I opened the TV and took with me the motherboard with her consent.

Question and answer part3

Richard Schmauch from United States

Hello Humphrey, I recently purchased the e-book CRT TV Repair Course and it definitely is a very solid read with loads of information, but I'm still having an issue with my TV which I'm wondering if you can help me out with.

I have a Magnavox 20" CRT TV which seems to work fine, but the volume takes forever to be able to hear the sound. It takes about 3 to 5 minutes to slowly hear the TV. If the TV's only off a bit, the sound will resume just fine, but if the TV's off for a while, you have to wait all over again for the sound to once again resume. It's definitely a nuisance.

What could be causing this, what could be done about this, and how much would it cost to get fixed. Again, it's a Magnavox 20" CRT TV with a model number of 20MT1331/17.

Sincerely,
Richard

Orion HT800HC Dead as a Dodo

Hello Humphrey!
Did you write the article on the Orion HT800HC? I have exactly the same problem with an Orion HT800HC and being a hobby mend it person, I opened the unit to have a look.

The Problem: We have a lot of lightning storms here in central Hungary and subsequent short power cuts (anything between 5 minutes and three days). I can well imagine that when the power came back on after a recent storm, there was a power surge which went into the DVD player which was still switched on. Consequently my unit is now dead as a dodo!

How I solved ‘No disc” symptoms on JVC DVD player

No disc problems in all types of DVD is a common phenomenon, before a DVD start reading the disc, there are several test it does just like the booting of the computer (CPu) called start up process.

If by any chance any of the stage is not working the DVD will display an error on the screen, most of the time it is disc error, no disc etc.

Among the components which are most suspected is the LENS, but from my experience this is one of the most stable components with a relatively very low failure rate.
